What is Oceanus Athletics?
Oceanus Athletics is the premier athletic training facility in the Lakewood, WA, offering CrossFit Classes, Personal/Semi-Private Training and Individualized Design Programming (goal specific). Each of us come from humble beginnings in the fitness world, we seek to bring our knowledge and experience to make our members smash their goals.
What does Oceanus Athletics offer?
We offer various classes and class times 6 days a week. We have group CrossFit classes 31 times per week. Individualized Design clients can complete their workouts during our open gym hours. The best fit for most of our clients is to enroll in our unlimited class schedule and train 4-5 times per week. If you need more or less, let our coaches know and they will work with you to achieve your definition of success.
What Is CrossFit?
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program. It utilizes constantly-varied, functional movements performed at a high intensity in order to improve cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. At OA, we use Crossfit because given the hour or so the average person has to devote to training, we have yet to find a better system.
What is a WOD?
“WOD” is an acronym for “Workout of the Day.” The workout of the day is the workout that is performed by each class throughout the day.
How do I sign up?

What if I don't like it?
As a gym, we are proud of an extremely high retention rate which means we are treating our members right and giving them a good product. That being said, we don't require a contract and you can turn your membership off at anytime.
How do I cancel or put my membership on hold?
Simply send an email to and we will do the rest.
I've never worked out before. Is this for me?
We understand how it feels to try time and time again to set healthy and effective fitness habits, just to slide back into our old routines. CrossFit is for everyone! Any age, trained or untrained because you are held accountable by your peers and coaches. We are here to help YOU succeed! For those who have never worked out before, we suggest completion of our “Foundations” course, which is comprised of 3 classes which can be done one on one with our coaches. This suggestion is to learn the movements that you will see in class; once your done with foundations you are rolled right into class with a warm welcome.
Do I have to be in shape before I do CrossFit?
You do NOT have to be in shape! That's what we're here for! We can accommodate all levels of physical fitness at Oceanus Athletics.
Will doing CrossFit make me bulky?
While CrossFit does incorporate weight training, it will not make you bulky. One would need to make a conscious effort through both strict diet and rigorous training to become bulky. Our owner has been training for years to be big and bulky and is barely there!
What should I expect the first time I work out?
To have FUN, sweat, meet some nice folks, and see what Oceanus Athletics is all about! The first workout is always free. If you don't like our gym, we will help you find one that better fits your needs.
What does a typical WOD look like?
The great thing about CrossFit is that it is constantly varied, so there is NO typical WOD at Oceanus Athletics. You can expect to see a very diverse mix of weighted movements, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, and gymnastics and other skills work. Variety is the spice of life and keeps people coming back for more, fitness should never be boring.
What if the WOD is too hard for me?
In CrossFit and at Oceanus Athletics, we can “scale” all movements to accommodate any fitness level. We believe the time you spend at the gym should be the favorite part of your day. That doesn't happen by crushing our friends and members. We are here to guide you on your fitness journey, not make you miserable.
Do I have to train everyday?
We do NOT encourage people to train everyday. That is because rest is critical for recovery, growth, and improvement. Even those members who have memberships allowing them to work out an unlimited number of times per week can only train 6 days per week since we're closed on Sundays.
How fast will I see results?
That is all dependent on the frequency of training, your diet, and the adaptation of your body to the training.
Can't I just do CrossFit in my garage or a regular gym?
You can, but we believe that CrossFit should be done in a group setting, people tend to have more fun and surpass their goals when they're surrounded by friends. Further, when you are under the supervision of a certified Coach, your skill development will increase exponentially while making safety paramount.
I have a prior back/knee/wrist injury. Can I still do CrossFit?
Yes! We will scale any movements that could potentially aggravate a prior injury. Our owners and coaches have multiple injuries from a life well lived and still train 4-5 times a week, we can show you how its done.
I heard CrossFit is dangerous. Is that true?
CrossFit is only unsafe when done incorrectly and/or performed without the supervision of a trained and certified Coach. Here at Oceanus Athletics, safety is our first concern.
